Mizuno boasts top share in glove sales in Japan so the company can obtain high quality leather from tanneries on a preferential basis. Hides come in "half-trimmed (half of the full cow hide)" size, and from this half-trimmed piece of hide only one or two gloves can be made. Only the highest quality, fine-textured flawless hides of calves that are 1-3 years little are used. They also make sure that they pick the most suitable origin of leather based on the type of the gloves they make.

Different sections of the hide are used depending on the component of the glove. Relatively stiff leather taken from near the backbone is used for the palm of the glove that requires unstretching quality, while soft and stretchy leather near the stomach is used for flexing parts. So as not to waste the precious hide, scratched pieces around the back and rear are used for the back of the glove and other invisible areas. Conventional gloves were designed based on paper patterns, which were stationary data. But, dynamic of hand is a critical feature we must consider when trying to improve the glove's grip strength. With the input of professional ball players, Mizuno researched for each position the internal pressure of the glove when catching the ball. By reinforcing the pressure points based on optimum rigidity design and at the same time using the flexible, highest quality leather for the shell, we successfully achieved a realistic and natural feel that conveys the gripping power to the tip of the glove.
